Project specialist/Postdoctoral researcher in medical bioinformatics

We are seeking an expert in data analytics and bioinformatics to join our team at Turku Medical Bioinformatics Centre (MBC). We develop computational data analysis tools and statistical and machine learning methods for the interpretation of large molecular and clinical datasets in close collaboration with medical research teams and biobanks. As a core facility and coordinator of the nationwide Biocenter Finland bioinformatics infrastructure platform, we also support high-quality research by providing bioinformatics support for academic and healthcare units.

The candidate will work in close collaboration with researchers affiliated with the InFLAMES Flagship in the fields of immunology and bioinformatics. Key responsibilities

  • Deployment, testing and development of new data analysis tools for single-cell omics data, including transcriptomics, epigenomics and proteomics
  • Processing and computational analysis of various types of sequencing and mass cytometry datasets
  • Provision of expert support in bioinformatics

Essential qualifications

  • Experience in various bioinformatic data analysis tools
  • Prior experience in omics data analysis
  • Good programming skills (e.g. Python, R) and ability to work with version control tools (e.g. Git)
  • Good communication skills in English and strong interpersonal skills
  • Academic degree in a relevant discipline

Desirable qualifications

  • Prior experience in single-cell sequencing or mass cytometry data analysis
  • Experience in biomedical research

Salary

The salary is determined by the collective agreement system of Finnish universities. The position belongs to research personnel or to the other personnel and the salary will be 2300-3000 eur/month for a person holding MSc degree and 3100 – 3600 eur/month for a person holding PhD degree.

Duration of the contract

The position starts September 1st, 2021. The starting date is negotiable. The position is fixed-term for two years, with a possibility for extension. The position is subject to a six-month trial period. The qualification requirements of the position are written in the University of Turku rules of procedure.
