Tero Aittokallio invited as InFLAMES Visiting Professor
InFLAMES has invited Professor Tero Aittokallio as a Visiting Professor. Aittokallio will give a Visiting Professor Lecture on Monday October 28th, 2022. The topic of his lecture is Predictive modelling of treatment responses in hematological malignancies. The talk will take place at 3 pm in Lauren 2 auditorium, Medisiina D building, Kiinamyllynkatu 10, Turku.
Tero Aittokallio iscurrently working as a group leader in Oslo University Hospital, Institute for Cancer Research and University of Oslo, Oslo Centre for Biostatistics and Epidemiology. He is also a Group Leader in Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM), University of Helsinki.
His group has expertise in integrating multi-omics profiling and clinical information from cancer patients using mathematical and statistical approaches such as machine learning and network modeling.
– The medical aim is to optimize treatment outcomes for individual patients using maximally predictive models and minimal biomarker signatures that enable real-time and cost-effective routine diagnostics and prognosis, Aittokallio explains .
Aittokallio believes that combining functional, molecular and genomic profiling information is critical for next-generation precision medicine applications, where integrative modeling and clever use of big data will pinpoint effective and selective targets for personalized therapies.
A total of 14 visiting professorships have now been awarded in the InFLAMES Flagship. The visiting professors come to Turku each year according to a separately arranged schedule. Their key responsibilities include student mentoring and lectures especially in the InFLAMES doctoral programme.
