Call for applications – Grants in Prof. Cecilia Naucler’s Research Group

Professor Cecilia Naucler opens a call for grant applications for scientific research related to cellular metabolism in inflammation and cancer. The call is open to researchers from all career stages. There are up to 6 grants available at this stage.

Professor Naucler´s research group, “Immunometabolism” focuses on studies to understand how cellular metabolism is altered during the activation of immune cells such as macrophages and T cells; a metabolic state in cells often referred to as the Warburg effect. Similar metabolic alterations are also observed in cancer cells and the group seeks to understand how normal metabolism is altered to the Warburg effect and thereby find new targets of therapy for inflammatory diseases and cancer. The group is located at MediCity, BioCity, at the University of Turku. The grantees will work on projects related to metabolic changes in cells of relevance for inflammatory diseases and cancer.

The grantees must have the right to perform their PhD studies at University of Turku. To apply, they need special competence within cellular metabolism and specifically how viruses affect cellular metabolism. It is of high merit to have competence in virus cultures, especially regarding human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), handling of primary cell cultures, Seahorse analyses, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, immunoprecipitation, CHIP assays, PCR, Western blot and immunohistochemistry analyses to detect virus infected cells, and how HCMV affects cellular metabolism.

  • Duration of six grants: July 1, 2024 to December 31, 2027 (with a possibility to apply for extension)
  • Amount of the grant: 2200 (-2600) €/ month
  • Application period: 7.6.2024 – 12.6.2024

Please submit your application to  inflames@utu.fi.
