DESCRIPTION:Welcome to listen Inside Industry InFLAMES lecture!\n\nYou are 
 warmly welcome to the lecture of InFLAMES Visiting Professors Ellen Strahl
 man and Reijo Salonen titled “The Road Less Travelled: Career Pathways i
 n Industry and Beyond”.  The event is hosted by Academy Research Fellow
  Maija Hollmèn.\n\nThe lectures will be held in the Medisiina C Lecture H
 all Osmo Järvi on Wednesday March 22nd at 12:00-13:30.\nCoffee/tea and sa
 ndwiches are served at 11:45.\n\nEight students\, doctoral researchers and
  postdocs are welcome to have a “late” lunch with Ellen and Reijo afte
 r the seminar between 13:35-15:00. This is a great opportunity to discuss

 n@utu.fi)\n\n\n\nEllen Strahlman\n\nEllen Strahlman has a degree in Bioche
 mical Sciences from Harvard University\, a medical degree from the Johns
  Hopkins School of Medicine and a Masters of Health Sciences degree from t
 he Bloomberg School of Public Health.  Her academic research focused on h
 er medical speciality\, ophthalmology\, and public health activities\, in
 cluding work in HIV.  She began working in the healthcare industry in 199
 1\, and had a highly successful career with senior executive positions in 
 several global companies.  Ellen was the Chief Medical Officer for Bect
 on Dickinson (BD)\, GlaxoSmithKline and Bausch &amp\; Lomb\; and was also 
 the Head of Research and Development for BD and Bausch &amp\; Lomb.  In
  each of these roles\, her focus on innovation and leadership led to the a
 pproval and commercialization of dozens of new medicines\, vaccines and 
 medical devices.  Ellen and her teams won several awards for their work\
 , including Outstanding Corporate Innovator\, 2015 from Product Developmen
 t &amp\; Management Association\, MedTech Woman of the Year\, 2014 from Am
 erican Society of Mechanical Engineers\, Woman of Power &amp\; Influence A
 ward\, 2014 from National Organization of Women and Visionary Award\, 2011
  from Foundation for Fighting Blindness.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n\n\nReijo Salonen\n
 \nProfessor Reijo Salonen graduated from the University of Turku as Licent
 iate in Medicine in 1983\, Doctor of Medicine in 1983\, and Specialist in 
 Neurology in 1990. The University of Turku has granted him the title of Do
 cent of Neuroimmunology in 1989 and the title of Professor in 2009. Since 
 2018\, Salonen has worked as a partner in the consulting service company R
 eillen Group LLC in Florida. He is a member of the board in two pharmaceut
 ical companies\, Pharmasum AS and DelSiTech. His 25-year experience in pha
 rmaceutical industry include leading global development and medical affair
 s in Neurosciences at Pfizer and GlaxoSmithKline in the USA and all Resear
 ch and Development at Orion in Finland. Moreover\, Salonen has had multipl
 e positions in the boards of Finnish and international pharmaceutical rese
 arch and industry organisations over the last 15 years. Salonen was electe
 d as the Chief Technology Officer of the Year in 2017.
