 rpa Jalkanen\, University of Turku\n\nDiabetes is classified into three ma
 in clinical categories (e.g.\, type 1 or type 2 diabetes\, gestational dia
 betes mellitus) that all have trend for substantial increase worldwide. Th
 e mechanisms of all types of diabetes are not fully known\, but immunologi
 cal changes have been shown to be important in all cases. This underlines 
 the need of immunological investigations in all types of diabetes. The pre
 sentation will cover the results that the Department of Immunology from th
 e University of Tartu has achieved during last years.\n\nCoffee/tea and sa
 ndwich will be served starting at 11:30.\n\nAbout the speaker:\n\nRaivo Ui
 bo is a Professor of Immunology and Head of the Department of Immunology a
 t the Institute of Biomedicine and Translational Medicine\, University of 
 Tartu. He is a member of the Estonian Academy of Sciences.\n\nR. Uibo grad
 uated with an MD degree and obtained a PhD degree in Internal Medicine fro
 m the University of Tartu in 1978. In 1990\, he received a DMSci degree fr
 om the University of Tampere. He completed postgraduate stays at the Unive
 rsity of Tampere (immunopathology)\, Monash University (immunology)\, and 
 Brussels University (IRIBHN\, molecular medicine). Later\, he worked as a 
 visiting scientist at Turku University (2005)\, Lund University (2008)\, a
