SUMMARY:InFLAMES Visiting Professor Career Talk: Aled Clayton
DESCRIPTION:Dear All\,\n\n\n\nWelcome to the Career Talk by InFLAMES Visiti
ng Professor Aled Clayton! The talk is held on Tuesday October 4th at 11 i
n Medisiina D Lauren 2.\n\nCoffee\, tea and sandwiches are served before t
he seminar.\n\nInFLAMES also organizes an informal lunch meeting for early
career scientists with Professor Clayton immediately after his career tal
k at 12 in Medisiina D Blokki 1. Please register separately for this event
  here: https://link.webropol.com/s/lunch-aled-clayton\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nAbout
Professor Clayton:\n\nProf. Clayton established the first group focused on
investigating the roles of extracellular vesicles (exosomes) in the UK. T
he group has published highly cited articles in relation to vesicles\, the
ir roles in subverting immune responses\, in controlling the cancer microe
nvironment and as potential disease biomarkers. He has published some of t
he seminal articles of the EV field with a h-index of 45 (&gt\;18 000 cita
tions).\n\nHe is interested in understanding the mechanisms by which vesic
le biogenesis and secretion is controlled\, and the impact such vesicles h
ave on the development and progression of cancer\; particularly focusing o
n prostate cancer. Developing tools and assays to quantify nano-vesicles i
n biological fluid specimens is also an important aspect of the group's ac
tivities.\n\nAlthough his main focus is in cancer biology\, he collaborate
s broadly with researchers in Cardiff\, including those in the schools of
dentistry\, engineering  and optometry\, and interacts with other Univers
ities on aspects including cardiovascular disease\, neurodegenerative dise
ases and other conditions that impact society in significant ways.\n\nhttp
