 ropol.com/s/lunch-eltzschig.\n\nAbout Professor Holger:\n\nProfessor Eltzs
 chig is a physician-scientist trained in anesthesiology\, cardiac anesthes
 ia\, and critical care medicine whose research is focused on hypoxia-induc
 ible transcription factors (HIFs) during perioperative organ injury. Studi
 es from his laboratory revealed that HIFs are stabilized during acute inju
 ry of the lungs\, kidney\, intestine\, or heart. Translational studies dem
 onstrate that these pathways can be targeted for disease treatment.\n\nHis
  focus is on defining therapeutic strategies to dampen harmful inflammatio
 n using pharmacologic HIF activators\, direct targets of HIFs\, or HIF-reg
 ulated microRNAs. The findings of their translational research have been t
 aken into randomized clinical trials to define therapeutic interventions f
 or preventing or treating organ injury in surgical patients or during crit
 ical illness (e.g. W81XWH2110032\; PI: Eltzschig).\n\nHe has extensive exp
 erience as a scientific mentor\, having mentored over 90 researchers and f
 aculty members of different career levels\, including students\, postdocto
 ral researchers and clinical fellows.
