He has received his MD (2001)\, PhD (2005) and Specialist Degree in Medicine (Cli nical microbiology\, 2014) all at the University of Tampere. He also recei ved the title of docent (Clinical microbiology\, 2017) at the University o f Tampere.\n\nHe did his post-doctoral training with Bill Paul at the Labo ratory of Immunology at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious D iseases\, National Institutes of Health between 2006 and 2011. Since then\ , he has focused with his team on pathophysiological mechanisms of allergi c inflammation and in particular the effect of allergy-related cytokines o n myeloid cells. He is especially interested on cytokines that share funct ional receptors (IL-4/IL-13 and IL-7/TSLP) and the logics of such receptor sharing in the immune system. Quite recently he has also become intereste d in the interactions of immune system\, inflammation and malignant cell g rowth.\n\nCurrently he leads the Cytokine Biology Research group at Tamper e University. His research is mainly funded mainly by the Academy of Finla nd and Tampere Tuberculosis Foundation. In 2014\, he also received Finnish Medical Foundation 175 000 Eur funding for his research.
