SUMMARY:Frontiers of Science: Prof. Gwendalyn Randolph
DESCRIPTION:19th November at 12:00\nOnsite event\nin Presidentti auditorium
 \, BioCity\nAutumn 2026 poster\n\nProf. Gwendalyn Randolph\, WashU Medicin
 e\, USA\nThe 3 L’s converge: Lymphoid tissue\, lymphatics\, and lipoprot
eins\n\nHost: Sirpa Jalkanen (sirjal@utu.fi)\n\nCoffee and sandwich served
at 11:45\, first come first serve!\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nSix PhD researchers and
early-career postdocs are welcome to have lunch and discuss with Prof. Ran
dolph after the seminar. This is a great possibility to learn hosting skil
ls in a friendly environment and create connections for future. Everyone i
s welcome to join\, BioCity Turku will offer the lunch.\n\nIf you got inte
rested in joining the lunch\, please send an email to biocityturku@bioscie
nce.fi\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nGwendalyn J. Randolph is the Emil R. Unanue Distingui
shed Professor in the Department of Immunology and Pathology at Washington
University in St. Louis\, Missouri. Her  research focuses on the traffic
king of immune cells and molecular cargo between tissues\, lymphatics\, an
d distal organs\, and how these processes contribute to chronic inflammato
ry disease. Her laboratory has defined how monocytes\, dendritic cells\, m
acrophages\, and lipoproteins migrate through tissues and lymphatic vessel
 s in conditions such as atherosclerosis\, psoriasis\, Crohn’s disease\,
and liver inflammation. By combining immunology\, imaging\, lineage tracin
g\, and single-cell profiling approaches\, her lab has revealed mechanisms
that regulate immune cell migration\, lymphatic transport\, and tissue-sp
ecific macrophage specialization. More recently\, Gwendalyn Randolph’s r
esearch has focused on the role of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) traffick
ing in inflammation and tissue homeostasis. Her group demonstrated that ly
mphatic and vascular transport pathways are critical for HDL movement betw
een organs and identified a specialized form of intestine-derived HDL that
protects the liver from inflammatory injury caused by microbial products.
These findings provide new insight into the links between immunity\, meta
bolism\, and inflammatory disease\, with potential translational applicati
ons for cardiovascular\, intestinal\, and liver disorders. In parallel\, h
er laboratory has trained numerous scientists who have gone on to establis
h independent research laboratories worldwide.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nSelected publ
