SUMMARY:Frontiers of Science: Prof. Arthur J. Ragauskas
DESCRIPTION:9th April at 12:00\nOnsite event\nin Presidentti auditorium\, B
 ioCity\nSpring 2026 program\n\nProf. Arthur J. Ragauskas\, The University
 of Tennessee\, USA\nFrom the forest to fuel tank &amp\; 3D printer\n\nHost
: Chunlin Xu (chunlin.xu@abo.fi)\n\nCoffee and sandwich served at 11:45\,
first come first serve!\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nSix PhD researchers and early-career
postdocs are welcome to have a lunch and discuss with Prof. Ragauskas aft
er the seminar. This is a great possibility to learn hosting skills in a f
riendly environment and create connections for future. Everyone is welcome
to join\, BioCity Turku will offer the lunch.\n\nIf you got interested\,
please send an email to biocityturku@bioscience.fi\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nThe need
for the development of sustainable energy and materials has never been as
compelling.  Ragauskas’ research efforts are directed translational bio
refining studies to address these needs both nationally and internationall
 y. His vision is to focus on fundamental research that allows him to estab
lish the science underlying the goal of making Clean Energy\, Chemicals an
d Bio-Derived Materials accessible and affordable.  This vision is focuse
d on four primary areas\, 1) addressing the affordability of biofuels by i
ncreasingly focusing on biomaterials and new fuels\, 2) expanding our work
on identification of gene function in plants from a biofuels emphasis to
a material focus that links to the biorefinery\, 3) developing new biomass
characterization tools\, and 4) developing the ‘technology space’ for
multifunctional bio-derived systems engineered at the nano-scale to provi
de unique smart physical properties.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nSelected publications\n

 &nbsp\;\n\nGeneral information\n\n Registration is not needed\, participa
tion list is circulated in the audience\n If you are a student and later
wish to get a certificate of attendance from the Frontier of Science semin
ars\, print out the seminar diary and after the seminar ask the BioCity co
ordinator to sign it https://seafile.utu.fi/f/0cd08ce7e61b419b88cb/\n Ple
ase note that any audio or video recording of the seminars is strictly for
bidden.\n Spring 2026 image credits to Jan Kaslin: Motor neurons (green)
