SUMMARY:CANCELLED Frontiers of Science (FoS): Prof. Johanna Myllyharju
DESCRIPTION:\n\nCANCELLED\nNovember 17th at 12:00\non-site event\nPresident
 ti auditorium\, BioCity\nAutumn 2022 poster\n\nProf. Johanna Myllyharju\,
 University of Oulu\, Finland\nProlyl 4-hydroxylation – a druggable prote
in modification with central roles in collagen synthesis and regulation of
hypoxia response\nHost: Jyrki Heino (jyrki.heino@utu.fi)\n\nCoffee and sa
ndwich served at 11:45\n\nWe hope to invite Prof. Myllyharju to Turku duri
ng  spring 2023\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nProfessor Johanna Myllyharju is an expert o
n the key enzymes regulating hypoxia response and extracellular matrix syn
thesis. Oxygen and extracellular matrix homeostases are vital for normal f
unctioning of cells and tissues\, and disturbances in their balance are as
sociated with many common diseases. Therefore\, detailed information on th
ese enzymes is essential for understanding their molecular mechanisms and
biological effects in detail. This has already paved the way towards pharm
acologic interventions\, exemplified by a longterm industrial collaboratio
n to develop enzyme inhibitors that activate the hypoxia response as thera
peutic drugs\, the first one being approved for treatment of severe anemia
of chronic kidney diseases in 2018.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nSelected publications\n
