SUMMARY:Career talk by Professor Marco Demaria
DESCRIPTION:When: December 11\, 2025 at 10:00–11:00\nWhere: Arje Scheinin
lecture room\, Dentalia\nSpeaker: Professor Marco Demaria\, University of
Groningen\, The Netherlands\nHost: Senior Research Fellow Gennadi Egutkin
\n\nAbout Professor Demaria:\n\nDr Demaria is an associate professor in Ce
llular Ageing and his research is focused towards identifying novel mechan
isms and biomarkers associated to senescent cells. His laboratory has also
a strong interest to characterize the pro-disease functions of senescent
cells induced during aging and by anti-cancer therapies. A major goal is t
o exploit these findings for the development of rejuvenating interventions
 . In 2018 he co-founded a start-up company\, Cleara Biotech\, devoted to d
 evelop anti-senescence drugs.\n\nAbout Demaria lab:\n\n"We investigate how
cellular senescence and other cell fates alter the tissue microenvironmen
t and influence the aging process\, the capacity to recover from transient
and chronic injury\, and the onset and progression of age-related patholo
gy. We aim to understand basic molecular and cellular mechanisms\, and tar
get such mechanisms to create therapies that enhance healthy longevity. Ou
r multidisciplinary research spans basic\, translational\, and clinical ap
 proaches."\n\nSelected publications\n\nThe senescence-associated secretory
