 ssor Shetty:\n\nShishir Shetty is Professor of Liver Tumour Immunology\, h
 e is also co-theme lead in the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR
 ) Birmingham Biomedical Research Centre and Interim Director of the Centre
  for Liver and Gastrointestinal Research at the University of Birmingham.
   He qualified in medicine from the University of Leicester in 1999 and u
 ndertake training in hepatology and liver transplant medicine at the Royal
  Free in London and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.\n\nDuring his
  training\, he joined the laboratory of Professor David Adams and undertoo
 k a PhD focused on lymphocyte recruitment to the liver. This initiated a c
 ollaboration with Professor Sirpa Jalkanen and Professor Marko Salmi and h
 e was funded by a Wellcome Trust intermediate fellowship  to study the me
 chanisms of liver fibrosis in a joint project with the Jalkanen/Salmi team
  in MediCity. In 2020 he was awarded a Cancer Research UK advanced clinici
 an scientist fellowship to find new therapeutic approaches to treat primar
 y liver cancer also known as hepatocellular cancer (HCC). He is a member o
 f key international networks and elected committee member of HCC-UK and th
 e International Liver Cancer Association (ILCA) Patient advocacy group. Hi
 s work has been recognised by several prestigious awards including the Lan
 cet Young Investigator Award\, the Dame Sheila Sherlock medal and United E
 uropean Gastroenterology Rising Star Award.
